Lowest US Dollar quotation since 1999
The Brazilian Real reached the mark of 1,544 for 1 US $, which hasn't happened for the last 12 years. The Brazilian Central Bank is trying intervene for months throwing US Dollars on the market in order to keep the exchange rate more favorable for Brazilian exports, but with no much success so far.

Rio de Janeiro welcomes Paul McCartney again
After the big success of his show on Maracana Stadium in 2010, Paul McCartney is coming to Rio again, this time for 2 consecutive shows - May 22nd and 23rd. Since Maraca Stadium is being renovated for the Fifa World Cup 2014, the shows will be held on Engenhao Stadium - current main stage of the Carioca football teams.

Week of decision for Fluminense
Fluminense, Vasco, Flamengo e Olaria advanced to the semifinals of the championship of Rio de Janeiro. Botafogo remained on the 3rd place in group B and is out. Vasco and Olaria will play the first semi final on Saturday at 18:30. The other finalist will be decided in the famous Fla-Flu, which will be on Sunday at 16:00.

Arch dominates the blue skies of Rio on this Friday
Austria's Hannes Arch dominated Friday's two training sessions ahead of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in Rio de Janeiro at the weekend, beating championship leader Paul Bonhomme of Britain into second place twice under bright blue Brazilian skies. Britain's Nigel Lamb was third in both training runs ahead of Sunday's second race ever in Brazil, where a record-breaking crowd of one million viewers is expected.

The new project of the Rio Government to take over the Favelas (slums populated by low income population and controlled till now entirely by drug dealers) scored another success on this Wednesday - April 28th. In a big operation with about with over 200 policemen several favelas in the surroundings of the neighborhood Tijuca were occupied.

First flights in Central and Northern Europe
After big discussions and a 4 hour long meeting between the 27 EU-ministers of transportation, the first flights in the, until then, blocked European airspace were allowed. The German Lufthansa received a special permission for 50 long flights and already started to bring back to Europe delayed passengers on Monday evening - April 19th.

Volcano’s Eruption echoes till South America
Due to the Eruption of the volcano on Island only 5000, out of the usual 22000 Saturday flights in Europe could start. The huge ash clouds are covering entire northern Europe and about to reach its southern parts. Only in Spain, Portugal and part of the Balkan region has still “open sky”. The German Lufthansa closed its biggest hub, which is also one of the biggest in the world, the airport in Frankfurt.

Flamengo’s disaster in Chile
It was a hard week for the Flamengo fans. After suffering for 90 minutes on Sunday against its big rival Vasco da Gama, Flamengo could win the game mostly due to the big mistakes of the referee. Vasco dominated the entire game, but couldn’t score the decisive goal and reach the final. Pressuring Flamengo at the end of the game, Vasco didn’t get a very clear penalty, which could have change the result. Flamengo didn’t seem to be able to react again.
